ARTIST BIO

An Artists Journey

Ray was born and raised in Western Australia. His natural talent and creative flare were evident frome his early school days. Ray pursued his art training at Perth Institute of Technology with artist and teacher John Lugi.

In 1956 Ray came to Melbourne and continued his studies at the National Gallery under the guidance of John Brack. John tried to encourage Ray to continue in fine art after a few successful exhibitions, however the financial rewards from industry, drew Ray towards graphic illustrating as there was great demand for Ray's style of work. He excelled in the areas of fashion and architectual illustrating.

In the 1990's Ray travelled around Australia in a caravan, during this period his renewed desire for the fine arts returned. He was taken by the beauty and colours of the outback and painted many scenes throughout the Flinders Ranges.

Ray then entered the competition "James Farrell Self Portrait Award" and was inspired when he recieved the "Peoples Choice Award" the first of many awards since then. Ray has also been commissioned to paint portraits of famous sporting celebrities. Ray is a proud member of the Victorian Artists Society, The Australian Guild of Realist Artists (AGRA), Angelsea Art House and the Ballarat society of Artists. Ray has been a judge at Art Shows and conducts work shops whilst still exhibiting his works in art shows around Australia.
