ARTIST BIO

Amanda Clark

Amanda lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her family, including two grown up daughters.
Portraiture and figurative work have always been of key interest and her daughters have been the subjects of many of her favourite portraits.

Recently she has completed a series of portraits of celebrities using photographic reference sources. A series of works with Heath Ledger as the subject was produced soon after Heath's tragic death and she was inspired to paint Michael Jackson after his sudden demise.

Amanda's most enduring inspiration is her father. Ric Clark became a full time artist after a long and successful career in business. He retired to Inverloch where he created and sold many works including local landscapes. A move to Sorrento was the beginning of a love affair with the beautiful land and seascapes of the surrounding area and many of his paintings adorn the walls of local residents and holiday makers.

Ric's love of painting and drawing have been a shining example to Amanda and she recalls that she had never seen him so happy as when he had a brush in his hand.

With a background and formal qualifications in science, Amanda, like her father, has recently given up her career in academia and the commercial sector to devote more time to studying art and producing art. Travel for work and pleasure has exposed her to wonderful sites all over the world and Amanda is beginning to broaden her repertoire to include landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes from many of the places she has seen in her travels.

Amanda is primarily self-taught, though she has participated in a number of courses and workshops over the years. In 2010, Amanda enrolled in a Diploma of Fine Art at Latrobe College of Art and Design.

This has provided her with new techniques and skills in painting, drawing, sculpture and installations and has also been a valuable source of inspiration to try new things, including street art.

Amanda has exhibited in a number of Art Shows around Melbourne, including the Camberwell and Brighton Rotary Club Art Shows. Last year she exhibited her work at the Sorrento Art Show for the first time and she is also a regular contributor to the various exhibitions held at the Continental Hotel in Sorrento.

She and fellow artists put on a group show entitled “A Class Act" in 2007 in Port Melbourne and more recently she contributed a resin installation piece to the Latrobe College of Art and Design end of year show entitled  "An exhibition of works from Studio Art 2010"
